Ron's Journal:
Week 11

In Kent got interviewed by the local paper, made it back into the woods by 1pm, met Pixie and Hurricane and went 9 miles by 6pm. My back muscles are a little sore, but other than that my back is good. Stayed at 10-mile woods shelter with Will and Marco Solo. We talked a little about Global Warming then War and they went a little further right to Armageddon. It’s easy to talk so far removed from everything as well as the facts and get passionate armed just with your beliefs. I was thinking that I make everything up. I take some facts, some beliefs (that someone else made up) mix them up and come up with something I believe in. I realized I can change my mind and beliefs anytime I want since I am making them up. Because what are the facts? What are the beliefs? Who said they are so? It is amazing to me the arguments I have had over beliefs and it is something we both made up and may not believe in tomorrow. Mark Twain once said, “there are facts then those damn surveys” (in our case beliefs).

Got up made it to Pawling meeting Blazing Stump, Daddy StarBucks, Danger Zone, Nimble and Rabbit. Stopped at a house where they let you get water. They let me call the paper (no one was there). Then went into town for dinner. Hitching back I got a ride from 2 guys my age, told them my story, they are going to write (they are vets) and gave me a donation. Made it to the shelter, tried to call out on the satellite phone, which disconnected every call, gave it up and went to bed.
