Ron's Journal:
Week 28

I had gone to a seminar on healing today (I check out anything I think I may learn something from) and she made a statement. She said, “Some people ask why me Lord“; then she said, “Because your available”. I realized I am available when I am not in the way, I have been unavailable for a lot of things in my life especially others. How available are our troops when they come home?

I generally don’t watch the news on TV because I am usually disappointed. I happened to see part of a memorial service for a fallen hero and his kid brother dedicating a candle in his honor. It is sadder that the war doesn’t end at those dead or wounded it spreads out to relatives, friends, neighbors, towns, and countries and changes them forever. How has it changed that little boy that put out the candle with his tears? What about the little boys and girls whose big brother or sister makes it home and take on their pain. We can change this, it isn’t their weakness, it is something the brain does to survive.

My son called and told me of something he heard on WNPR about the troops coming home and in Colo. They are waiting to get counseling so I called to get more information. Set up a tentative talk at a local school, I can not be quite; what is your heart telling you to do? Wednesday, December 6, 2006
12/6 Set up a talk in Florida for when I visit my parents for Christmas. Thursday, December 7, 2006
12/7 Went on a bus tour with the mermaids to see Christmas lights in Jones Beach, had lunch and some entertainment one of the sisters of a mermaid was a veteran from the Viet Nam era and we talked about it and what can be done about it. I feel asleep on the bus and missed the lights; how many times have I missed the bus altogether and had no clue as to what was happening around me because I didn’t care?

Friday, December 8, 2006
12/8 Saw the mermaids in the pool this morning and I said why didn’t you wake me up; they said they thought I was. How many times have I not woken someone up because I was afraid of confrontation? /Talked to a guy in the gym about what we are doing and he is to the point of giving up because he thinks that the politicians only care about themselves. I said if I do nothing I am part of the problem and that is unacceptable to me, what chance do they have if we all say that?

Saturday, December 9, 2006
12/9 They found the family that was lost in the snow, the mother and children in the car lived and the father who went out seeking help died of exposure, they made him a hero. What father wouldn’t do that to save his family? It is easier to see the reason to do something when I can see life threatening consequences immediately, when the life threatening consequences are insidious and not immediate (like in PTSD) it is easier to let it slide until it is to late. They are just as grave and have far reaching consequences that effect young and old, innocent and not so innocent. The time is now to be a hero and do what is right.
