Got up first thing and got the invitations out, it is amazing what I can do when I am calm and rested. If I follow my passion I will find my dream.

Found out from Holli that the proper protocol is to go thru the Congressman in my district which is Tim Bishop, who I called today as well as Steven Stern who is the head Legislator out here. Steve’s office said that since I want a Federal Law passed it has to be written up by Congressmen since they only write laws on a county level. This whole thing is a learning curve for me since I had never gotten involved in politics I have no one to blame but myself for the way things are.

Found out from Holli that I am unable to write the law up the way originally intended ( 2 weeks of mandatory counseling for PTSD for all military personnel prior to discharge) because it can only be mandatory for the criminally insane or those that are a danger to themselves. So now we are wording it to say we want 2 weeks of debriefing for all military personnel prior to discharge that will encompass techniques dealing with stress, how to readjust to the civilian worked and the possibilities of new career opportunities. This will go a long way to help remove the stigma and be preemptive in dealing with PTSD.

I am encouraged by the quick responses of a lot of the politicians offices and there support and guidance. Was given the name of a PR person (Sally) who I called and was a big help with how I should say things not to alienate people and yet get the message across. Also to change my view on asking for help or allowing people to help. I am giving people to opportunity to do something they believe in or they wouldn’t help or donate; I help them to make a difference and unite them so we have an impact. We can do what I can’t.

Got an email from Holli giving me the contact person in congress for Tim Bishop that I should be working with. Talked to Doreen from Jacobs Light Foundation who is going to get involved with us and be on our Advisory Board and feels that PTSD is an issue to be addressed. Got an email from the president of IVAW who wants to know what we are up to. Talked to Doreen from Jacob’s Light Foundation who called Newsday for me to help get some press and said that he would call me today. |
