Ron's Journal:
Week 44

Saw the chiropractor and walked for awhile to get ready, working on getting a blackberry phone so that I can stay connected while in the woods and they want me to fax over a drivers license, social security card and credit card and they won’t except anything else, so I am unable to do it.

Monday, March 26, 2006
Called CBS and left a message, called PR, congressional aids, Michael, Penny Coleman, Bev who did the video shoot and Radio Shack to get the phone. I went in to Radio Shack, canceled the order and reordered it again with them helping me so I can get one before I leave, finally got the phone at 8 pm.

Tuesday, March 27, 2006
Went to Montauk to do another video shoot then home, called people about the meeting and got some input from some who wouldn’t be able to make it. Did a dive job, then walked for 2 hours with 20 pounds to get my back and feet ready, tomorrow will tell me how it went. The web page is starting to transform and it looks good and will help unite all the groups and people who want to make this kind of difference.

Got up at 4 am to get Zach (my son) from the airport so he could be at our pilot program meeting. Got him at the airport (JFK) at 6:30 am then we went to my demist where I found out I have three cracked fillings to be replaced before I go into the woods and that I am grinding my teeth a lot ( guess I am a little worked up), he didn’t do the fillings because some emergency came up. I realized what you think your emergency is if I don’t directly feel it, to me it isn’t an emergency, but it did effect me because I didn’t get to have my teeth fixed. How so like the plight of the troops coming home, I think it doesn’t directly affect me, but it does, my quality of life is poorer because of the drain on our society by the collateral damage. That damage is the disfunctionality caused by most of the returning military who don’t have adequate skills to deal with the stress and trauma they have felt and witnessed.

We arrived early at Penny’s loft so we went to the park and played chess, Zach beat me twice (first time) he felt good about that and I had trouble believing it. Went to Penny’s and meet her face to face for the first time and after a little getting acquainted we dove right into reworking the wording of the plan to make it clearer. Dr. Carl Simmons came then we stopped doing the rewording and started discussing the main goals and how to achieve them. We decided that our plan was two fold, one was to bring awareness by me walking and talking, the other part was the pilot program. To create more awareness we will enlist the aid of others to reach out to all the splinter groups across the country with first a cover letter then a follow up call. To give more credibility and reality to our pilot program we had to enlist the aid of administrators and Doctors of the now existing Veterans Administration get their thoughts and recommendations as well as a place to have it. We would also get documentation from other authorities in the field and their recommendations.
I had been upset because I had expected more people to show up and I realized it was me that I was most upset with for all the years I had never shown up. I showed up today and that makes a difference.

Penny had let us stay over night so that I could bring my son to the airport first thing in the morning, so we were up at 5 am at the airport at 6 am. I was home at 7:30 checking emails and phone messages, got messages from Max Cleland’s office and they want to know the details of the media event in Georgia so that they could participate. Also got a message from the PR people that CBS wants to do the interview just before I go back in the woods and I sent them the schedule of my walk and dates I would be in the towns along the way so we can set up talks or media with local Congressmen.

Got a call to do a good size dive job, which will be nice, it helps me relax and gives me a distraction for awhile, being a male (being Polish may have something to do with it also) I can only focus on one thing at a time, I don’t get this multi tasking thing that women do.

Friday, March 30, 2006
I spent some time rewriting the flyer I had out at schools when I talk and am writing a cover letter to send out to organizations to work together to get legislation.
