Ron's Journal:
Week 45

Got hold of Michelle who will help us organize volunteers and help over see what goes on so that we can stay on track, she is also helping me find my way around in the technological world of the 21st century. I carried weights while walking for a few hours to get ready and see how my back will hold up, while walking I thought (from what little knowledge I have) that if our troops had been in the Mafia at least while they were away at war their families would have been taken care of and after they came home they would have a job and be taken care of. It seems ironic to me that an organization we portray as evil seems to have a better code of ethics or at least take care of their own better then our country which I was taught in school stands for everything just and noble and does the right thing by its own. What is the right thing, what is just and noble thing to do by our troops?

I am doing a dive job for the next few days which will help fund the walk, Thank God; so I won’t be able to do the hours I have for a few days for the cause, so I will just have to get more efficient with the hours I do have. They had a safety meeting and the head of safety asked if I had shoes, I said yes; then he asked if I would wear them, I said, Maybe. Came back with sneakers which didn’t work for him so one of the guys (bosses) gave me his steel toed shoes which were a size 12 or 13, I have a size 9 foot so I felt like Bozo the clown with these things on.

Got email from the Joe saying they are setting up a meeting with Tim Bishop the day I leave and we are orchestrating the rallying point in July and how that will look.

Before going diving I have emailed a few people keeping the momentum going. Today was the last day of diving, we got the job done, no fresh scars and everyone is alive, it got a little hairy there for a while, playing with electrical cable at over 60 ft using scuba gear instead of surface supply.

Went down to the boat to help unload the old cable, the welders on the job saw my bumper sticker, checked out the web site and asked a lot of questions. I talked before their whole office, they gave me a knife and t shirt for the trip and are writing letters. Started working on my gear. Watched a video made by a Veteran legally blind about abandoned Veterans, I was impressed; we will get it on the web page some how.

Thursday, April 5, 2006
Worked on the gear, been walking with 20 pounds of lead around my waist on asphalt to get ready. Set up a meeting with Larry who has worked in the system of counseling for veterans and is drawing up a plan and pulling together others for the pilot program.

Friday, April 6, 2006
My friend Wayne (Yoda) who helps me with the computer threw a going away party for me. It was kind of a surprise for he had the first showing of my video interview done by Bev, so I got to see how I show up; there is plenty of room for improvement. I am over whelmed by the support of all the people around me.

Saturday, April 7, 2006
We are meeting with Tim Bishop at 11am on the 12th to get his support and start working on the legislation. Walked a few hours with 28 pounds of lead and took my friend who wants to walk in the woods for a few days with me. I tried to tell her walking at sea level on the trails of Long Island are a little different then walking on mountains 3 to 6 thousand feet above sea level, she’ll see.
